FROM THE DUGOUT MARCH 2010

KANE RICE BACK......AND HE’S GONE AGAIN!
Defender Kane Rice made his long awaited return to first team action in the recent seven goal thriller against Leyton at Oakwood. Having injured himself in a pre-season friendly against Dartford, Kane has been having extensive physiotherapy with Phil Jeff on his knee (medial ligament) problem and was waiting on an operation (arthroscopy) to resolve the problem. Having undergone an MRI scan of the knee the specialist booked him in for his op but advised that he knee was in good shape so having waited months for his operation Kane decided to play until his operation.....for one game only! He had a hand in two of the goals as his short back pass allowed Leyton to score their third goal and restore a two goal cushion but his run and cross for the watershed second Vickers goal was worth the admission fee. The operation was a success with no lasting damage to the medial or cruciate ligaments and his cartilage is in good shape too. Kane is expected to return to training in 2-3 weeks so may appear before the season is out.
THE BRADSHAWS AND GEORGE MITCHELL GO ON LOAN TO ERITH TOWN AND THE DERES..
..
Both Bradshaws (Tom and Jack) have signed for KL clubs to gain first team games and keep up their fitness levels. Tom has signed for neighbours Erith Town while his brother Jack has signed for Erith & Belvedere. George Mitchell has also signed for the Deres but has yet to make an appearance. Tom has played in two Erith Town games while Jack appeared in a recent draw at PVR for the Deres.
All three were recalled for the recent win away to Tilbury so these loans may be short-lived.
THE HANDRAILS ARE HIGHER!
Recent visitors to Oakwood will notice that the handrails to the perimeter of the pitch have been raised in accordance with the Ryman League requirements thanks to some sterling work by Chris Cook and Jimmy Skelly. The advertising hoardings and netting are due to be installed soon to give the already impressive Oakwood and even better look in good time for the 31st March deadline.
INJURIES AND SUSPENSIONS NEWS.....
Anthony Hogg serves the last of his three game suspension this Saturday (Redbridge) and is eligible for the three games next week (Tues/Thurs/Sat) against Harlow (Home), Redbridge (away) and Cheshunt (away). Lee Maskell has suffered a recurrence of his groin injury and is expected to be out for 4-6 weeks whilst captain Danny Penny, Gary Cook and Aaron Firth are all hoping to be fit for the first Redbridge game. James Tedder returns to the squad following his work overseas and brother Chris is hoping to be fit for the games next week also.
O’SHEA IS OFF THE MARK.....
Exciting young winger Callum O’Shea is off the mark for the Vickers scoring the winner against Tilbury with a fine header in only his second full appearance. Callum joins up with the other talented teenagers in this ‘Vickers babes’ squad and is hoping to add to his tally with the games coming up. The ex-Eire international has shown his pace and skill in recent games and looks to be a fine acquisition for the club.
